Just southeast of Phoenix, you'll find Gilbert. While there are plenty of suburbs spread out across the Phoenix metro, Gilbert is different from them all. That's because things here are always getting bigger, stronger, and faster.
How so?
In the beginning of the 20th century, Gilbert was a sleepy farm community that happened to sit along a rail line. In less than 100 years, Gilbert went from being the "Hay Capital of the World" to the most populous incorporated town in America. Between 1980 and 2010, Gilbert's population got 36 times bigger! If that's not the fast track, we don't know what is!
Aside from its rapidly-growing population, here's what you need to know if you're thinking about moving to Gilbert:
- It's family-friendly
Gilbert is home to the highest percentage of family households in the entire state. And, with more than 700 acres of designated open space, you and the kids will have plenty of room to enjoy the area's natural beauty. Plus, the voters here approved a five-year strategic plan back in 2012 to improve the local schools.
- It's still growing
Gilbert isn't ready to hop off the fast track just yet! This city is home to nearly 10 million square feet of retail space, and new stores and restaurants are popping up all the time. Gilbert has also established a reputation as a medical leader, thanks to a growing number of prestigious hospitals -- including the Banner M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
- It's affordable
Gilbert's home values have been rising ever since the recession ended -- but prices here are still low enough to fit into virtually any-sized budget. In fact, the homes for sale in Gilbert tend to cost a little less than other sections of the Phoenix metro, but because the city is growing so quickly, the homes for sale also tend to be newer than what you'll find elsewhere.
